First iPhone app
September 9th, 2008
I created my first iPhone application recently. It’s been an interesting road.

It’s a small app for browsing the chat threads of a specific community, Shacknews.com, which is a gaming news site with a following of interesting people that like to play games.
Memory management, and cryptic stack traces continue to be the biggest issues for me in this whole Objective-C venture. That, and the app store approval process is incredibly frustrating. Updates seem to be taking AT LEAST a week to be approved, which really sucks when you need to fix a critical bug. And recently, I got denied because a new feature in the update didn’t work. Turns out, this was because of a temporary failure in the website that feature connects to that happened to coincide with when they were doing the testing. That was all fixed pretty quickly, but my app is still rejected, and I imagine it will take at least a week for them to respond to my email.
Come on Apple, I know you can do better than this.
Next up, I’m gonna try to learn some OpenGL and see if I can muster some cool game or something.

Hi Alex,
I saw your blog on beautifulpixel.com regarding the small application you created for the iphone for people browsing the chat threads similar interest. I’m a tarot reader and I have a website and I’m looking for a similar application for tarot fans to use on the iphone i have a website called http://www.tarotools.com/ is a tarot site (under development) and would like a similar application for the following of interesting people that like the tarot. I was wondering if you could create me a similar application but the topic being the tarot?
Tarot Features
When my clients come the my tarot website I have a free tarot reading program they decide how many times they want the deck shuffling, the computer then shuffles and lays the cards out in front of you choose your cards and layouts with the mouse, just as you would do in real life with your finger.
The computer then matches the card and card position with an interpretation previously written it’s exactly as it would happen in real life, well more or less. I will be selling used and new products based on spiritual topics such as tarot…books, cards, crystals, candles etc free readings with prewritten interpretations…with the function to send the reading with images via email. sign up feature, chat room card gallery, affiliate links and banners
I hope this helps; please let me know if this makes sense and if your possibly could send me a quote?
Thank you
Patrice
